Are you interested in craft and product design?  Otelier is a new studio operating at the intersection of design, traditional craft, and sustainability. Role

Part-Time Studio Associate to help out with our operations and marketing.  We’re looking for someone interested in design and craft to help us setup our new Kyoto location.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities will vary depending needs:

• Provide Japanese–English interpretation during business and design sessions with artisans, manufacturers, and business partners

• Manage order fulfillment and domestic/international shipping. 

• Help setup a new studio space

• Reach out to and build relationships with retail stockists

• Prepare for tradeshows and exhibitions

• Execute social media marketing, email marketing, and outreach to press and influencers.

Requirements

• Fluent in both Japanese and English, written and spoken

• Be available for in-person meetings in Kyoto 

• Interest in traditional crafts and design 

• Comfortable working independently

• Ideally has experience in marketing, operations, and/or design.

• Authorized to work in Japan without visa sponsorship (e.g., Japanese national, Permanent Resident, Spouse or Child of Japanese National, Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident, Long-Term Resident, or Special Permanent Resident)

Hours & Location

• Approximately 5–10 hours per week to start.  

• Mostly remote, with occasional in-person meetings or site visits at craft workshops and at our office near Shijo Karasuma for inventory management.

• Schedule is flexible, with coordination agreed ahead of time.

Employment Details

• Hourly wage paid biweekly.
